On the one hand, it melts. On the other hand, it melts. |
As you may or may not know, my absence can be explained due to the massive life upheaval known as moving. And also moving in. With a woman. The woman.
It's the tops so far, but the only thing I've done more in the last week than open and close boxes is sweat. The heat purifies, the heat melts, the heat inspires, the heat tires, the heat is unending here until it suddenly isn't. I even heard a Hot Hot Heat song in the bar yesterday. Yeah, it's on the brain.
But I choose the glass is half full (of sweat I'm sure) perspective. If there are winter songs of a particular tone and taste, the same is certainly true of the summer. And while winter music is often deep and brooding and so very "The National and Interpol", summer songs are all too often limited in our initial consideration as light and mindless and playful. And while I've got plenty in my record collection to attest to my love for those songs, I've got an increasingly growing space on my shelves and in my heart for deliberately-paced, oozy audio sugar--from Euro-tinged electronic and EDM to lounge-fueled jazz and R&B to classic trip-hop to masterfully-birthed chillwave. The sweet heat.
So I give you a dozen languidly lovely songs to do summer to (and all that that implies).
Beat the heat by being the heat.
