Playlist of the Week: A Dozen Disparate Reasons

"12" was an inspired choice.

Hey everybody, this is post #100.  (golf clap)

And now for music.  12 songs.  12 reasons.  As follows:

1.  Because Mark Sultan is coming to town to play a show tomorrow night and he's one of the best, one of my favorites, and one of the few who truly leaves his guts out there when he performs--like this.  And because I wanted to start this playlist with a song called "I Am the End".

2.  Because chicks dig Passion Pit.

3.  Because a follower of this blog--and one of the most beautiful souls I've ever known--passed away in the last week.  And she is free.  And she is home.  And she has nothing left to fear.

4.  Because I've been in love with her since I was sixteen and after another long break, she's back.  And then she'll be gone again.  Hot women just do whatever they want.

5.  Because Belle & Sebastian don't get nearly enough credit for doing that Belle & Sebastian thing that they do.

6.  Because I saw them perform last week and it was one of the most significant shows I've seen in ages for all the right reasons.

7.  Because this is the second rad Dan Boeckner-fronted band to call it quits in the last year (Wolf Parade) and further proof you just can't rely on Canadians.

8.  Because this song was on in the car when I was driving around with my mom last weekend on the way to see her choice of movies for her birthday which ended up being "What to Expect When You're Expecting" which I paid for and sat through because I'm a really, really good son and she's surprisingly become a fan of Camera Obscura and so it seemed like I should include it here.

9.  Because whenever King Khan decides to record and release something new, we're almost always better for it.

10.  Because Ty Segall covering T. Rex needs no justification.

11.  Because pop music reminds us that it's important to remember what this feels like so you can appreciate it when you don't.

12.  Because I'm fascinated by those who turn their personal tragedy into something beautiful.
